Where the water goes
Turf lets water through, but concrete does not. The slab needs enough slope and a drain or edge for water to leave. Drainage is part of our standard installation, not an extra. Read the drainage guide.
Home / Services / Turf on concrete, patios and rooftops
Houston, Texas / Patios, pool decks, rooftops and balconies
Concrete does not absorb water, the surface can run hot, and a rooftop or balcony answers to someone else. We check the slab, slope, drains and approvals first, then write the scope.

Local Houston installer. 5762 S Acres Dr, Houston, TX 77048.
You are here because
The concrete is hot, plain and not somewhere you want to sit.
You worry rain or rinse water will pool under the turf and smell.
Your HOA, landlord or building may need to approve before you order anything.
Thresholds, planters and drains need to look right and work.
Sun on a slab, and reflection off nearby windows, worry you.
You want to know where rinse water goes before the dog uses it.
Real finished projects
These are real finished TurfMastro projects from our gallery. The poolside and patio photos show turf next to hard surfaces, but they are not before and after pairs and not rooftop or balcony projects. Ask what applies to your substrate.

How it works
We look at the slab, slope, drains, edges and access, and confirm the scope in writing.
The surface is prepared and turf installed by our own crew. What goes under the turf depends on the substrate.
We walk the finished work with you, go over care, and hand over the written warranty.

In a Brigham Young University study, synthetic turf averaged about 117°F over the day, compared with 94°F for concrete. Turf over a sunny slab is hot in summer without shade. Cooling infill does not promise safe temperatures. Read the heat guide.
Sunlight reflected off energy-efficient windows can damage turf, and some manufacturer warranties exclude that damage. Tell us what faces the area.
Check with the building owner, property manager or association before you order. We cannot guarantee roof suitability or provide structural advice.
Standard installation includes drainage, base preparation, old-grass haul-away, a free design concept and cooling infill. On a slab the substrate decides what applies, and padding is not assumed.
If dogs will use it, rinse water has to drain away too, and turf is not odor-free. See pet turf.
Ten questions before buying
Often yes, but the slab has to be assessed first. A hard surface does not absorb water, so we look at the slope, drains, cracks and edges before we recommend anything. We do not reuse an over-soil plan on a slab, and we confirm what works for your surface in the written quote.
Turf lets water through, but concrete does not. The slab needs enough slope and a drain or open edge for rain and rinse water to leave. Drainage is part of our standard installation, not a paid add-on, and on site we look at where water goes now. We cannot prevent standing water on every surface or promise all-weather use.
Transitions are looked at one by one: door thresholds, steps, planters, drains and the edge of the slab. We plan the finished edge and the height at each with you before work starts, and we show it in the written scope.
Over a slab the turf is not anchored into soil, so the attachment method depends on the surface, the turf and the use, and we confirm it on site and in writing. If a membrane or waterproofing layer is involved, that belongs to the building owner and the roofing or waterproofing professional. We do not provide waterproofing or structural engineering.
Sometimes, but we cannot guarantee that a given roof or balcony is suitable. Load, drainage, the membrane and the building rules have to be checked by the people responsible for the structure. Tell us what you have, and we review the surface and what you need from the owner before we write a scope.
For rooftops, balconies and shared buildings, check with the building owner, property manager or association before you order anything, and get the approval in writing. We cannot promise approval, and we do not interpret local ordinances. For a private patio, still check your HOA rules.
In direct sun, yes, and a sunny slab holds that heat. Our standard installation includes cooling infill, but it does not promise safe temperatures for bare feet or paws and it is not automatically right for every assembly. Plan shade, rinse before use and check the surface by hand.
Yes, if rinse water has somewhere to drain. Without drainage, odor can build up, so settle the water path before installing. Pet areas need waste pickup and regular rinsing, and turf is not odor-free. A balcony or rooftop pet area needs that plan first.
Our standard installation includes drainage, base preparation, old-grass haul-away, a free design concept and cooling infill. On a slab the substrate decides what applies: there may be no grass to haul away, and what goes under the turf depends on the surface. Padding is not assumed. Substrate work and other trades or permits are listed in the written quote.
You skip mowing, but you will still clear leaves and debris, brush the surface now and then, and rinse. Hard surfaces need more attention to where rinse water goes, and pets mean waste pickup. We go over the care at the final walkthrough.
